| Finland’s diverse chemical industry covers the basic chemical industry, the various fields of chemical product industries (incl. pharmaceutical industry) as well as the oil refining and the manufacturing of plastic and rubber products. Products are manufactured into a wide variety of intermediate industrial and consumer end product applications. The most important customers for the Finnish chemical industry are the forest industries as well as construction and transport. |
The chemical industry is one of Finland’s major industrial sectors. A
substantial part of its production is exported directly or indirectly as
raw materials used in export products. Finland also imports raw materials
for domestic production as well as speciality chemical products. |
Chemical industry competitiveness is based on personnel competence. The
number of employees in the field has remained stable over the last few
years. Ageing of the workforce will be a key challenge for the industry in
the future. |
Close cooperation in innovation is a key asset of the Finnish chemical
industry. The industry invests significantly in R&D, and joint research
projects make efficient use of human and financial resources. |
Progress in environment, health and safety work is monitored annually, on a national basis. Data on emissions, waste, lost-time injuries and investment covers more than 15 years. |
